<strong>THE WATER CRISIS</strong> – The world water crisis is one of the largest public health issues of our time, causing 2 million deaths every year! — Nearly 800 million people (roughly 20% of the world’s population) lack access to safe drinking water. — Every day 4,500 children die from illnesses like diarrhea, dysentery, and cholera caused by dirty water and unhygienic living conditions. — Lack of access to clean water not only severely impacts people’s health, it also suppresses economic growth and negatively impacts women and girls‘ education advancement. — Waterborne illnesses kills more children than malaria and HIV/AIDS combined.

<strong>THE MISSION</strong> – At FACE Africa, we have an ambitious yet simple goal: CLEAN, SAFE DRINKING WATER for every single person in Liberia. We fund and support sustainable clean water, sanitation and hygiene projects through partnerships with local communities, partner organizations and government agencies. We implement a host of water solutions including: Hand Dug Wells | Drilled Wells | Rehabilitation of Existing Wells | Building Communal Latrines | Distribution of Point-to-Use Water Treatment Solutions | Training Water & Sanitation Committees | Hygiene Workshops </br></br> <strong>THE GOAL</strong> – Liberia is recovering from 14 years of civil war which destroyed the country’s infrastructure, including major water points and water systems. On any given day, millions of Liberians are battling the effects of some kind of waterborne disease. Poor sanitation and bad hygiene cause the deaths of one in five Liberians (WHO). By collaborating with local communities, partner organizations and government agencies, our goal is to implement sustainable water projects that help reduce poverty and improve the quality of life for the people of Liberia. </br></br> <strong>THE PROJECTS</strong> – Since 2009, we have implemented a host of water and sanitation projects including hand dug wells, rehabilitation of existing wells, and building communal latrines that have benefited thousands of men, women and children in rural Liberia. We have implemented projects in rural villages, markets, schools and orphanages. Our latest initiative known as ‘County by County’ or ‘CbC’ Commitment will seek to construct 250 wells and hand-pumps in River Cess County by 2017. The initiative will provide complete water coverage to the county, benefiting over 60,000 residents.
